Our History: A Legacy Focused on the Future

  • 1957: founding of the company Barillec

Founded in 1957 by Roger Barillec and André Delhemmes, the company initially focused on electrical maintenance for the Concarneau fishing fleet. It quickly expanded into new marine electrical installations and industrial electricity, laying the foundations for its diversified expertise.

  • 1960-1970: development, diversification

Present across numerous French shipyards and expanding into new activities such as coil winding, industrial services and the tertiary sector, the company is experiencing strong growth. In 1971, it established its headquarters in new premises in Concarneau and continued its development in Africa and the Middle East.

  • 1980–1990: Transfer and reorganization by business units

In 1985, Mr. Barillec transferred ownership to a subsidiary of Compagnie Générale des Eaux, now VINCI Energies. By the late 1980s, a dedicated wiring workshop was opened in Concarneau, along with a new agency in Lorient focused on industrial machine safety. Export activities expanded into Eastern Europe. In 1996, the company was reorganised into four entities: Barillec Industrie, Barillec Marine, Barillec Lorient, and SITEL in Quimper.

  • 2017 to 2023: From Consolidation to Expansion

🤝 2017: Le Gall and Barillec Marine merge under a TUP and become Barillec Marine Services, specializing in maintenance and trading activities on the left bank of Concarneau. The Les Sables d’Olonne site is attached to Barillec Marine Lorient in 2018.
🤝 2023: With growing market potential in inland navigation, Barillec Marine Lorient opens a site in Paris to meet demand. The Trocadéro becomes the company’s first fully electric vessel for Vedettes de Paris.

  • The 2000s: Iconic Projects for Barillec Marine

Barillec Marine demonstrated its expertise through several landmark projects:
⚓ 2003: First electric propulsion system fully designed, installed and commissioned by Barillec (Le Diamant – Bateaux Parisiens)
⚓ 2006: Complete electrical installation of the Pourquoi Pas vessel (ALSTOM Marine shipyard)
⚓ 2008–2009: Engineering, design, installation and commissioning of 9 electric propulsion vessels (passenger, fishing, offshore work)

  • The 2010s: New Markets

True to its roots, Barillec continues to evolve and innovate:

📍2012: Establishment in Vietnam under the name BE SEA (Barillec Electricity South East Asia), offering turnkey marine electrical solutions across Southeast Asia.
📍2014: Opening of a site in Saint-Evarzec to develop energy storage solutions and renewable energy production (solar and wind).

  • 2024: A New Identity to Meet Tomorrow’s Challenges

In 2024, as part of the development of its marine-related markets—particularly in response to the decarbonisation of maritime and inland transport—VINCI Energies brought together its historical companies under the Actemium Marine brand. Barillec Marine and Cegelec SDEM joined this new identity, reorganising into three areas of expertise: construction, services, and specialties. Ten companies were created to strengthen customer proximity and better address market needs.

  • Today: Heading Towards the Energy Transition

Building on its expertise in energy conversion and management, Actemium Marine supports shipowners and shipyards in embracing the energy transition. The company offers solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of vessels, and is actively involved in major French projects for hydrogen-powered and battery-electric ships.
