Design and Development of the Complete Control and Automation System for an Asymmetrical Rigid Wing

Our collaboration

Since 2021, Actemium Marine has been supporting Computed Wing Sail (CWS) in the development of innovative wind-assisted propulsion solutions designed to accelerate the decarbonization of maritime transport.

 

Following an initial collaboration on the DIVA prototype, Actemium Marine teams contributed to the design, integration and commissioning of the AIRRFIN 350 W0 demonstrator, an automated rigid wing nearly 40 meters high, designed to optimize wind propulsion for vessels.

For this large-scale technological project, Actemium Marine delivered the complete marine control and automation system, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the wing and its associated equipment.

The scope of work included:

  • Automation system engineering;
  • Development of control and monitoring software;
  • Design and manufacturing of electrical control panels;
  • Energy conversion and energy management solutions;
  • Electrical integration and on-site commissioning operations.

Expertise Mobilized at Every Stage of the Project

The success of this demonstrator is the result of the complementary expertise within Actemium Marine:

  • Actemium Marine Systems: engineering and development of control and automation systems;
  • Actemium Marine Factory: manufacturing and wiring of electrical cabinets;
  • Actemium Marine Sud Loire and Actemium Marine Concarneau: electrical integration, equipment connection and commissioning support.

A Concrete Contribution to the Maritime Energy Transition

This achievement highlights Actemium Marine’s ability to develop tailor-made solutions for innovative projects involving wind-assisted propulsion, marine automation and the energy transition of the maritime industry. Conducted in close collaboration with the Computed Wing Sail teams, the AIRRFIN 350 W0 project demonstrates the potential of wind propulsion technologies to reduce the carbon footprint of maritime transport and confirms Actemium Marine’s expertise in designing electrical and automation systems for next-generation vessels.
